As required under Title 5, United States Code, Section 552 (Freedom of Information Act, FOIA), USMEPCOM discloses records when requested in writing. However, information may be withheld according to the nine exemptions and three exclusions contained in the statute.

Each federal agency is responsible for meeting its FOIA responsibilities for its own records. The purpose of the Act is to provide records that are releasable to requesters; it is not intended to answer questions.

USMEPCOM's FOIA/PA Office is responsible for:

• Implementing Office of Management and Budget (OMB), Department of Justice (DOJ), and Department of Defense (DOD), and Department of the Army (DA) guidance regarding the FOIA/PA
• Ensuring the requirements of Executive Order (EO) 13392 (Improving Agency Disclosure of Information) the Action Plan are fulfilled.
• Providing guidance and procedures for USMEPCOM activities regarding information release and protection of Army information and to allow individuals to access and amend privacy records, when appropriate.
• Coordinating with the Army FOIA/PA office to publish USMEPCOM system of records notices; receive and report personally identifiable information (PII) incidents.
• Reviewing USMEPCOM regulations and forms for FOIA/PA compliance and conduct compliance reviews.

Please note that all applicant medical records are kept within a system called MHS Genesis and are housed at the Department Health Agency.
