Lieutenant Commander Jason L. McNear is the commander of the Knoxville Military Entrance Processing Station.

Lieutenant Commander McNear enlisted in the U.S. Navy and completed Boot Camp at Recruit Training Command Orlando, in November 1992. As an enlisted Sailor, he made numerous deployments aboard the destroyer USS Thorn, landing platform dock USS Nashville and guided missile frigate USS Taylor. He also completed a shore tour with Navy Recruiting District San Francisco as an enlisted classifier. In 2002, while assigned to the USS Taylor, Lieutenant Commander McNear was selected for commissioning in the Limited Duty Officer Program. He completed qualification as a Surface Warfare Officer and was commissioned in November 2002.

As a limited duty officer, he was assigned to the supercarrier USS Harry S. Truman, where he served as the personnel and educational services officer. Ashore, he served as the administrative assistant at Naval Air Station Meridian, Miss. He then served as administrative officer with U.S. Fleet Forces Command, Global Force Management and Joint Operations Directorate, and as assistant officer in charge of Personnel Support Detachment Afloat, Atlantic, both at Norfolk, Va. Lieutenant Commander McNear redesignated into the Human Resources community in February 2009 and subsequently earned his certification as a Professional in Human Resources. He assumed command as officer in charge of Personnel Support Detachment, Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek, Va., in February 2010. In August 2012, he was assigned to Navy Recruiting District Richmond, Va., where he served as the recruiting operations officer.

Lieutenant Commander McNear earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts from Excelsior College, Albany, N.Y., and a Master of Science Degree in Information Technology Management from Touro University International, Cypress, Calif.

His military awards and decorations include five Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, six Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and various unit and service medals and ribbons.
